For everyone

Make it yours

A few settings shape how the whole app feels. This guide covers your profile, units and effort scales, theme, your weekly goal, language, and the account controls that keep you in charge of your data.

Your profile

Your profile is where your identity in the app lives: your name, your role or roles, and the coach connections you have. A single account can be a trainee, a coach, or both at once, and your profile shows which apply to you.

If you are connected to a coach, that connection appears here with its status, and you add a coach by entering their 6-character code. Connecting and disconnecting is always mutual, so both sides see the same picture. Your own trainees, if you coach, live on the Trainees tab.

Roles are not a switch you flip and lose. A coach can do everything a trainee can, track their own workouts, keep their own templates, and be coached by someone else, plus the coach-only work. So being both is simply the full picture, not two accounts to juggle.

Units and effort scales

Pick the units you think in. Weights show in kilograms or pounds, and the choice applies everywhere, from logging a set to reading a chart. Decimal weights use your locale format, so a comma or a point both work where they belong.

You also choose how you describe effort. and are both first-class in Ironstead, and the app never forces one on you. Set your preferred scale here and it becomes the default when you log a set. You can still read and enter the other scale wherever it appears.

Theme

The app offers two accent colors, blue and orange, so it can feel right for you. By default the accent follows your role, coaches get orange and trainees blue, and you can override it. The interface itself is dark, easy on the eyes under gym lighting.

One note on this website: unlike the app, the site you are reading keeps a single fixed look. The accent choice lives in the app, not here.

Weekly goal and streak

Set a weekly training goal, for example three sessions, and the app tracks how you are doing against it. A streak counts the run of weeks you kept your promise to yourself. It is a gentle nudge, not a scoreboard.

The goal is yours to set and change. Raise it when training is going well, lower it in a busy stretch. Consistency you can sustain beats a target that breaks you.

The point of a streak is momentum, not pressure. Hitting a realistic goal week after week builds the habit that actually drives progress. If a hard week breaks the run, the honest move is to keep training the next week, not to chase a number that no longer fits your life.

Language

Ironstead speaks English by default and German is available. Your choice follows your account, so the app reads the way you prefer wherever you sign in. Screen labels, hints and messages all switch together.

This guide, and the whole website, offers the same two languages. Use the language switch in the header to read it in English or German.

Notifications, privacy and account

You control what reaches you and what the app keeps. Notifications are opt-in and you decide which ones you want. Privacy settings govern your data, and a coach only ever sees the trainees connected to them.

Your account is yours to keep or to close. The app supports exporting your data and deleting your account outright, which removes your data. You are never locked in. A few controls are worth knowing where to find.

  • Notifications: turn each type on or off; none are forced on you.
  • Data export: take a copy of your data with you at any time.
  • Account deletion: close your account and remove your data outright.

Questions about settings

Do I have to use RPE, or can I use RIR?
Either. RPE and RIR are both first-class and the app never forces one. Set your preferred scale in units and scales; it becomes your default, and you can still read or enter the other scale anywhere.
Can I change the app colors?
Yes, in the app. It offers a blue or an orange accent, defaulting to your role, and you can override it. This website itself keeps one fixed look; the accent choice lives in the app.
How do I delete my account?
The app supports deleting your account, which removes your data. You can also export your data first. You are never locked in.
