Execution and technique cues
- Sit upright in the machine with the outside of your thighs flush against the pads.
- Hold the handles to secure your pelvis firmly against the backrest.
- Push your thighs outward as far as possible using a controlled movement.
- Return to the starting position slowly, maintaining tension on the glutes.
Common mistakes
- Allowing the hips to rise off the seat during the movement.
- Using momentum or jerking the weight rather than controlled muscle contraction.
- Allowing the knees to drift away from the pads.
Frequently asked questions
- Which muscles are targeted by the hip abduction machine?
- It primarily targets the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and the tensor fasciae latae.
- Is leaning forward beneficial on this machine?
- Leaning forward slightly can alter the line of pull to emphasize different fibers of the gluteus medius, provided your spine remains neutral.
