How to perform it
For strength, use 3 to 5 heavy carries over 10 to 20 meters with 2 to 3 minutes of rest. For conditioning and volume, use 3 to 4 carries over 30 to 50 meters at a moderate load.
Execution and technique cues
- Lap the stone using a deadlift technique, pull it tight to your chest, and stand up.
- Clasp your arms tightly around the stone and brace your entire core.
- Walk forward using short, rapid strides while keeping the stone high on your torso.
- Lower the stone back to the ground under control with a flat back at the end of the carry.
Common mistakes
- Allowing the stone to slide down the chest, causing the upper spine to round.
- Leaning excessively backward to balance the load, placing high stress on the lumbar spine.
- Taking strides that are too long and unstable, leading to a loss of balance.
Frequently asked questions
- How should I breathe while carrying a Husafell stone?
- Take shallow, rapid breaths since the load on your chest limits deep diaphragmatic breathing.
- What is the best arm placement for holding the stone?
- Wrap your arms around the stone, locking your hands together or pressing your forearms flat against its sides.
