How to perform it
For strength, use 3 to 5 heavy carries over 10 to 20 meters with 2 to 3 minutes of rest. For conditioning and volume, use 3 to 4 carries over 30 to 50 meters at a moderate load.
Execution and technique cues
- Secure the harness around your torso, grip the guide rope firmly with both hands, and lean forward against the harness tension.
- Maintain a low, aggressive forward lean with your core braced and feet set wide for maximum traction.
- Pull yourself forward along the rope with powerful arm strokes while driving your legs back into the ground.
- Continue driving forward with consistent foot speed until you cross the designated finish line.
Common mistakes
- Standing too upright, which reduces leg drive and leverage against the heavy load.
- Losing tension on the guide rope, leading to jerky movements and loss of momentum.
- Taking small, shallow steps instead of forceful, driving strides.
Frequently asked questions
- What type of footwear is best for a truck pull?
- Shoes with high-traction rubber soles, such as climbing shoes or specialized outdoor training shoes, are ideal to prevent slipping.
- Should I focus more on pulling with my arms or pushing with my legs?
- Both are critical, but the legs generate the primary power, while the arms on the guide rope help maintain body angle and pull the torso forward.
